Why are scammers so successful? Stories about fraud victims are everywhere in the news today, from the classic forged checks to stolen credit card information and even electronic transfers from bank accounts. We are easy prey if we do the one thing that thieves count on: ignore the information given to us. Here’s an article that illustrates my point.

When we don’t read our monthly statements and rely on the honesty and accuracy of our credit card companies and banks, we let our laziness work in favor of criminals. The next time you get a statement, stop and think. Yes, reading and verifying your account is a pain. Yes, it takes time out of your already-busy schedule. But it’s nothing compared to the hassle you’ll face if you find out too late that someone has gotten to your money.
